Core Values for Leading Halton Hills

Integrity

Always do what's right and conduct ourselves honestly and ethically.

Respect

Act in ways that show we have due consideration for the opinions and perspectives of others. Concede that we are not always right.  We recognize that everyone - citizens, elected officials and staff alike -  has an important contribution to make and they deserve to be treated with an equal sense of worth.

Trust

Each of us must work every day to continue to earn and retain the confidence of those who rely on us. We do what we say.

Fairness

Be mindful that fairness is measured as it is seen through the eyes of the beholder and so things will not always appear to be fair to everyone. Knowing this, it is even more important that we work hard to be objective and free from bias and to weigh circumstances carefully in an effort to be just and equitable.

What leadership means to me

“Leadership starts with a large dose of humility.  None of us knows everything and I always keep in mind the words of Bill Nye who said this: everyone you will ever meet knows something that you don’t.  More than anything, I’ve learned that leadership means being a great listener.  Bold action, addressing problems big and small and charting a bright future rests on the foundation of a solid understanding of the issues at hand.  Do what’s right, in an even-handed way, but most important as Mayor is simply to do your job, the job of addressing the concerns and hopes and dreams of the people who chose to put you in office.”
